GEOMETRY FOR YOUNG CHILDREN
One
of the Montessori areas that we can do to reach our children at home in a
simple and especially very economical way, is the call of "practical
Life".
With
this matter children practise all those activities that will make them a little
more independent, like pouring water from a jug, eating with the spoon, tying
their shoes, buttoning their clothes, etc.
In the activity that today I show you combine on the one hand the
practice of buttoned and on the other the learning of the forms, initiating the
small ones in the geometry.
Montessori propose this button panel in which they use pieces of cloth
in different ways. Here and you can start working the shapes of the felts that
should button.
As
you see the construction is very simple, but we want to expand the
possibilities, to make it more complete:
1.
If we use buttons of the same colours as the felt shapes, we can add colour
matching.
2.
Using also shape buttons, you can add colour and/or shape matching.
These
buttons are also used to make series, work the fine-gripping motor, as counters...
They are a very interesting resource for the pre-school stage and you will be
able to use them many times.
